The Michigan Municipal League represents Michigan's cities and villages and is constantly visiting them. Here are some photos of the League's recent visit to Kalamazoo, Michigan, on a beautiful spring afternoon. The stop included rooftop views from the Skydeck restaurant and a stroll around Kalamazoo’s Arcadia park and the beautifully restored Kalamazoo transportation center, which serves as a public bus terminal and an Amtrak train stop. Kalamazoo has many of the placemaking assets identified in the League's Center for 21st Century Communities program (www.mml.org/resources/21c3/about .html), including physical design and walkability, economic development, and entrepreneurship. The League's recently published book, “The Economics of Place: The Value of Building Communities Around People”, focuses on what communities like Kalamazoo can do to become even more vibrant. You can order the book here on Amazon.com. Read more about why our downtowns matter on the blog by League CEO Dan Gilmartin at economicsofplace.com.
