From Congo with Love

I did the graphics for this exhibition just launched in London. From Congo with Love- exhibtion outside the National Theatre on the South Bank. Featuring work from Rankin's recent visit to eastern Congo and images taken by the villagers of Sange.
About the exhibition:
As part of his 2009 visit to the DRC, Rankin ran a series of workshops, teaching around 200 people how to take their own images. Prior to the workshops, most had never seen a camera. Following the workshops, their brief was simple – take photos of the people and things that you love.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is one of the toughest places on earth to call home. Since 1998, five million people have died as a result of conflict here – and war continues to devastate the east of this vast country. Most people have been killed not by the fighting, however, but by the malnutrition and disease it has caused. The scale of suffering here is immense. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed. Rape is widespread.
And yet beyond the horror, hope remains. Amid the unspeakable violence, there is true kindness. Two million people have been forced from their homes across eastern DRC. But the majority don’t live in makeshift camps. Instead, they live with families who have opened their homes to those who have lost everything – in many cases complete strangers. Most people here live in extreme poverty, and yet it is extreme generosity that shines through.
