Believe it or not, this is the view from the parking lot for Ubehebe Crater in Death Valley National Park. We actually saw a fancy couple make the drive all the way out to here in a new Mercedes and they didn't even get out of their car. I imagine that the cinders are difficult to negotiate in heels but at least take a look from the paved viewing area!

This crater is up to 777' deep. Boja and I went in there and took a good look around for a while. The flat area at the bottom of this crater is huge but you can easily speak to your friends inside from far away without yelling.

The craggy areas in the center of this picture are little canyons. Some of them go quite a ways back!

Getting in is pretty easy. The trail is basically a giant pile of gravel. You can safely descend in a series of really fun jumps. Unfortunately, the walk back up is awful - especially if the sun is out at all that day. Boja and I were suffering on that black hellish slope in December. I can't even imagine what it would be like in the summer.

This is a series of overlapping photos stitched together with Microsoft's ICE (Image Composite Editor). It's like Autostitch with an interface and more.
