The Dow Takes a Plunge

Yesterday there was rioting in Athens, Greece over a proposed bailout plan to alleviate Greece's growing debt . The protesters charge that the plan would impose measures that would be too harsh for the populace to bear. The rioting left 3 people dead, 59 injured, and 25 arrested.
Anxiety over how Greece's debt problems will affect the european economy and a presumed errant large "sell" order from a trader triggered investors around the globe to pull their money from stocks, junk bonds and other risky securities and pour it into the safest assets, such as U.S. Treasury securities.
The Dow Jones industrial average briefly plunged over 1,000 points around 3 p.m before quickly regaining about half of those losses.
