Ayn Rand's book, "Atlas Shrugged", always comes to my mind when I see this statue. Carrying the weight of the world - it can't be easy. The statue, located at Rockefeller Center, is an iconic landmark in a city where people come to pursue their dreams. America still deifies (as we still should) these innovators who have gone above and beyond to pursue their dreams and visions. Just look at the memorials at any Apple store after the recent death of Steve Jobs. Jobs once said, 'I'd rather be a pirate than join the navy'. Ayn Rand would have adored Steve Jobs for his never ending pursuit to accomplish what he believed in. He is the John Galt of our era - one of society's most productive citizens and it's simply because he followed his dreams.

When you're traveling, a night like this isn't uncommon. There's always something new and interesting awaiting you every day. I always tell people the best part of seeing the world is waking up and never knowing what you're going to do, where you're going to go or who you're going to meet. Like an ocean current, traveling picks you up and where it'll drop you off is always impossible to know.
This photo was taken on Mindrel Beach, in the Northern Australian city of Darwin. Never would I have expected this city to have such a spectacular sunset. I flew into this remote city knowing no one. I walked down main street after taking a bus into the center of the city and came across a quaint little hostel with a pool in front. Darwin is a hot city (actually located very close to the equator) and the cool relief from a pool looked great. At the hostel, I met a great group of Swedish people. Most had just graduated college and were working seasonal work for extended periods of time. Klara and Agnes (shown here) convinced me to come with them to the beach one night. After capturing the sunset, I decided I had snapped enough photos and it was time for me to jump in as well. Apparently, the camera's timer was still on and it caught me running in after these two.
On a side note, my cousin sent me this link a while back about the abandoned city hall subway stop in New York City. Apparently, this downtown splendor exists in near perfect condition and by the look of the photos it really reminds me how New York once was in the early 20th century.
